DEVELOPMENT

Inspired by the choreographic processes and stylistic features of Jasmin Vardimon's work, Step 3 will offer various suggestions and methods of developing movement and making aesthetic choices in response to the practice question.

Introduction
Once a choreographer has generated a movement language, the next stage is to further develop this language to make it more sophisticated and increasingly linked to the choreographic intention. As the movement develops, choreographers will also consider other elements of the work such as structure, manipulation, aural and physical setting. These factors are all equally important elements of choreography and considering them all as tools that can help you to communicate your choreographic intention to your audience is key to success.

N.B. Choreographers will consider these elements in different orders. For some movement comes first, for others aural setting etc. There is no right or wrong way. This order is there to serve as a suggestion for the educational purpose of this resource.

The introduction to the above clip will give students an understanding of the way Jasmin Vardimon approaches choreography. It is key to focus on the way in which she presents her work often in an episodic structure, which demonstrates various explorations of one or a few key ideas. This is what we want our pupils to do at A-Level.

Juxtapose this task with varying aural settings.

For further challenge, you could encourage students to use the structure of the poem to inspire their rhythm.
